Transitional Housing Program (THP) : The Transitional Housing Program (THP) serves a limited number of adolescent clients (ages 16-19) who are in the process of emancipating from the foster care program. The goal is to successfully transition youth out of the foster care system. The primary objective for youth in the THP is a safe living situation and the ability to be self-supporting (for some youth, self-supporting may mean accessing resources such as financial aid, student loans or relative assistance). Transitional housing teaches foster youth first-hand what it is like to live independently. It provides youth with the opportunity to try, fail, and learn new methods of behaving and living in the community while at the same time giving them a safe place to practice their new skills.
