Oakland's 1st annual International Youth Day Festival, June 4, 2005

The Office of Parks and Recreation and The Oakland Youth Commission are excited to announce that we are planning Oakland's 1st annual International Youth Day Festival in conjunction with our 2nd annual Youth Recognition Day. The events will take place on June 4, 2005, from 10am - 4pm in the Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in Downtown Oakland.

International Youth Day is a festivity to celebrate children and youth around the world. Oakland's first annual International Youth Day Festival will coincide with the global International Youth Day that has been celebrated since 1925.

• We are currently in the process of outreaching to children and youth entertainers to showcase the amazing talents of the Bay Area's children and youth. If your organization is geared toward performing we would like to invite you to participate. Click here for performers document.

Youth Recognition Day is an event that will honor both individual youth and youth groups that have dedicated themselves to improving Oakland's community through their outstanding work. We are paying tribute to the youth who are advocating for positive change in his or her community as well as positive change for themselves. * The Youth Recognition Day event will take place inside the International Youth Day Festival.

• Click here for the nomination form for the Youth Recognition portion of our event. You can submit the names of youth who you think deserve special acknowledgement for their civic engagement in their community.

If you would like to be a part of the festival or have any questions or comments please contact Clark Janklow or Rayna Garcia at (510) 238-3310 or email at cjanklow@oaklandnet.com.
