Special Extended FYA Membership Meeting on Friday July 15th
 

Come to the Foster Youth Alliance Membership meeting on Friday, July 15th and participate in something special.

There will be a facilitated discussion about “Making Service Coordination Real: Collaboration Amongst Community Based Organization and with the County” in relation to services for transition aged current and former foster youth.

The First Place Fund for Youth is Hiring an ETC Manager and a Youth Advocate
 

The First Place Fund for Youth has created an exciting new opportunity in its Emancipation Training Center Program to support current and former foster youth through intensive case management, housing advocacy, and supplemental security income advocacy.

The First Place Fund for Youth is seeking a professional manager to lead the organization's program development and execution of the Emancipation Training Center, located in downtown Oakland. For the complete job description please click here.

As part of The First Place Fund for Youth's on-going expansion of the Supported Housing Program, we have an opening for a Youth Advocate to provide case management and other supportive service around youth transitioning out of foster care and into independent living. Parenting Youth Needed for a MHSA Focus Group
 
The Transition Aged Youth Planning Group for the Alameda County Mental Health Services Act Needs is recruiting youth for a focus group. If you know youth between the age of 16 and 24 who are parents, and live in Alameda County please refer them. (The youth does not have to have been in foster care)

Date: Wednesday July 13th
Time: 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm
Location: The First Place Fund for Youth

Youth Law Center Summer Programs
 
The Youth Law Center has been holding informative discussions on youth law issues for the past few weeks and will continue to have more through Wednesday, August 3rd. The seminars are held on Wednesdays from 12:00 to 1:00PM (sometimes longer) in the Youth Law Center conference room. The Youth Law Center is located at 417 Montgomery Street, Suite 900 in San Francisco, between California and Sacramento Streets. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Funding Opportunity on Kinship Care and Adoptions
 

Applications are due August 10 for discretionary grants for developing adoption services and supports to improve permanency outcomes for youth who wish to retain contact with family members. The purposes for funding these demonstration projects include demonstrating the effective implementation of strategies for introducing the concept of open adoption to youth and/or sibling groups who prefer to maintain contact with birth families and/or siblings; demonstrating effective implementation strategies for connecting youth to adults to promote a range of permanency options; and demonstrating effective models of youth leadership and collaboration between youth, siblings and other family members, caseworkers and possible adoptive families in planning for youth permanency.

MHSA Housing and Homelessness Work Group, July 11th
 
Come to the next meeting of the Alameda County Mental Health Services Act
Housing and Homelessness Work Group

The Working Group will present its draft proposals for better serving homeless people and people who are inappropriately housed in the mental health system.

The Community is invited give input and feedback on the proposals and especially on incorporating key provisions of the Mental Health Services Act regarding:

  • Ensuring a focus on wellness and recovery
  • Designing programs to be client and family driven
  • Recognizing ethnic and gender disparities and ensuring cultural competency
