| Treasure Island Job Corps Site Tour |
|
| |
| Thou Ny is setting up a site tour of the Treasure Island Job Corp Site and is looking for people interested in the tour. Below is a copy of the e mail sent with information about the tour and his contact information in case you are interested:
I'm surveying everyone to find out if we have enough people interested in a Treasure Island Job Corps site tour.
A couple of months ago, as participants of the State's Foster Youth Employment Training and Housing Taskforce, Richard Otto (Casey Family Programs), Rosario Flores ( Alameda Workforce Investment Board), and I participated in a half day job corps site tour in Sacramento. After learning about what job corps can offer to aging out and former youth, I thought a local site tour for the HOPE collaborative would open up more service options for our aging out foster youth.
A while back, I met with Maria Palafox, Job Corps Admission Counselor for Downtown Oakland, to explore the possibility of setting up a tour. If we are interested (if we have enough people that is), she and her colleagues would arrange for the tour, which includes transportation, gourmet dishes, and other presentations. Maria and I are considering setting up this tour for late early or late September.
Based on what we (Richard, Rosario and I) saw and learned from the Sacramento tour, Job Corps has many of the critical service elements that would be helpful to aging out foster youth, especially those without concrete connections to housing, employment, education, social, and financial support. Please share this survey with staff and colleagues, and let me know if you or colleagues are interested in this tour.
Thanks,
Thou Ny
