Upcoming FYA Training: Resources in the Community Tuesday, May 10
 
Come to this fun, informative, interactive networking training. Learn from and teach other Direct Service Professionals about the resources in the community available to your youth. This training is back in Oakland

Date and Time: Tues., May 10th, 9:30-12:30.

Location: Alameda County ILSP 2647 International Blvd. Suite 312 in Oakland

Seneca Center Training: Helping Children Thrive
 
There is still room in Seneca’s 5-Part Training: Helping Children Thrive: Advanced Emotional-Behavioral Skills with Dr. Alan Fruzzetti

Part I April 28th

Part III June 27th
Part IV June 28th
Part V June 29th

Each class is 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Earn 35 BBS CEU's and 35 GHA CEU's upon completion of the course !

April Events for Youth at The First place Fund for Youth
 
Every Wednesday @ 4:00pm: Come and join our weekly discussion group where we talk about topics such as relationships and love to the Matrix to the Iraq War. Open to former and present foster youth between the ages of 16 and 23. Call Justin for this week’s topic @ 272-0979 x 10.

Tonight, 4/14 @ 6:00pm: Old School Movie Night. Come out, kick back and have some popcorn and watch a movie from an era where Cadillac’s and big hair were the thing!

Emancipation Workshop: Do you have a foster youth who has questions about emancipation and what types of services are out there for them once they emancipate out of the system? If so, please call Zimbabwe Davis and he will schedule an appointment with them and help them bridge the gap between pre-emancipation service and post-emancipation services. Zimbabwae can be reached at 272-0979x27.

Gastinell's Supportive Housing is Recruiting New Residents
 
Gastinell's Supportive Housing in San Francisco has reopened its application process and we are actively recruiting for new residents. Gastinell's will provide housing and supportive services to women who age out or emancipate from the foster care or group home system. Each resident must be between the ages of 18-24 years old, homeless, low-income, and have one of the following SHIA requirements:

Mental Illness
Developmental Disability
Chronic Illness
Substance Abuse
HIV/AIDS

Transition Age Youth Conference in California, May 2
 
California's first statewide conference on Transition Age Youth (TAY) will take place in Long Beach on May 2. The plenary session will help
attendees learn how Mental Health Services Act funds can be used to plan and implement TAY services, and workshop presenters will lead
discussions on education, housing, employment, and recovery strategies.
CSH's Jonathan Hunter will moderate the housing panel. For more
