Campaign for Safe Transitions Action Alert AB 824
 
Assembly Bill 824 (Judy Chu), which allows youth to participate in THP-Plus housing until their 24th birthday is nearing the finish line. This week it is anticipated that the bill we pass out of the Senate and find its way to the Governor’s desk. The Governor then has twelve days to sign the bill to make it a law.

Please take the time now to click here and download a letter of support that can be adapted and put on your letterhead. Then fax the letter to Governor Schwarzenegger’s office at 916-445-4633. Please also fax a copy of the letter to Assemblywoman Judy Chu at 916 319-2149 and lastly, drop me an email letting me know you have done so at afreeman@acfya.org. Thanks so much for your support.

New Services at The First Place Fund for Youth
 
The First Place Fund for Youth is delighted to announce that, effective August 29th, 2005, we will be revising the services offered through our Emancipation Training Center to better serve transition age foster youth in the community.

Two new staff members have come on board to facilitate the change: Dannielle Williams is the new ETC, Program Manager and Kalen Flynn is the new Jesuit Volunteer. Please click here to read about the exciting changes.

The Oakland Youth Chorus is Recruiting Singers
 

Oakland Youth Chorus invites youth ages 14-21 to audition for the famous Concert Chorus. The Chorus meets at OYC at 27th & Harrison , Oakland, twice per week throughout the school year and performs 20 times per year. The Chorus will go on tour in Atlanta in the spring. It won first place in the national music competition in Seattle in April.
