The next FYA Professional Development Training will address “Helping Youth Prevent Pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Talking to Youth about Human Sexuality” This training will be held on Tuesday, September 12th, from 9:30 to 12:30 at the ILSP Office, 2647 International Blvd., Suite 312, Oakland. This training is a joint project of FYA, Seneca Center, and Chabot FKCE.

| Alameda County ILSP classes begin Tuesday, September 5th. Eligible youth can enroll in class by contacting ILSP before Friday, September 29th.

| Cal State East Bay Renaissance Scholars Reception |

The Renaissance Scholars Program at California State University, East Bay, is a comprehensive initiative launching at Cal State East Bay this Fall. The program will enable foster youth and emancipated foster youth to reach their dreams of attending and graduating from college.
You are invited to help launch the Renaissance Scholars Program and welcome the first 20 Renaissance Scholars to the Cal State East Bay campus.

| Yoga for Peace in Oakland: September 9th |

Who: Hundreds of people will gather to do Yoga with the intension of peace in the community of Oakland, California
When: Saturday, September 9, 2006 at noon
Where: 1 Frank H. Owaga Plaza (in front of Oakland City Hall at 14th and Broadway)
Bring your yoga mat, water and a healthy snack !
Yoga for Peace began in New York City in 2002 in response to 9/11. This year Oakland will be joining with San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Maui, Boston, Dubai, Sweden, New Zealand and Germany. Yoga for Peace is a demonstration of how people can gather together to do yoga with the intention of peace. The event will feature the 108 sun salutations, which creates greater harmony and alignment with natural law. There will be Kirtan music and special guest performers Phoenix and After Buffalo. All levels are encouraged to come and non-yoga participants are welcome.
The hope is to create peace in Oakland and in the greater world through coming together and practicing together on September 9th.

Adolescence and the Transition to Adulthood: Rethinking the Safety Net for Vulnerable Young Adults, which builds on the 2004 research and public policy conference co-sponsored by Chapin Hall and the MacArthur Research Network on Transitions to Adulthood and Public Policy, will bring together researchers, practitioners, and the policy community to offer a comprehensive picture of early adulthood for those without family support or for those whose physical, mental, or behavioral problems create special barriers to independence.
