FYA Professional Development Training on June 13

On Tuesday, June 13th, from 9:30-12:30, the FYA Professional Development Training will address “Permanency & Connections for Older Youth .” This training is being presented by Kevin Campbell and will be held at the ILSP Office, 2647 International Blvd., Suite 312, in Oakland.

Click here for a flyer to post in your agency.

Trainer Kevin A. Campbell has worked for more than 20 years with seniors, adults, families and children throughout the country. Over the past 17 years he has been instrumental in developing permanency focused services for youth in the out-of-home care system. In Washington state, where Campbell first helped to develop the “family finding” model, 253 out of 288 troubled children (many of whom had previously been deemed to have no family connections) moved in with relatives within a six-month period in 2003. He visits as many as 10 cities a week teaching child welfare professionals how to track down kin.

This training is a joint project of FYA, Seneca Center, and Chabot FKCE. To RSVP, email Amy Freeman at afreeman@fosteryouthalliance.org or call 510-444-4025, x235.

Campaign for Safe Transitions Update

We have great news! SB 1576 passed out of the Senate on May 30th. We are one step closer to having THP-Plus become a fully-funded state program. This progress is due to the great efforts you all have made, through support letters, legislative visits and testimony at committee hearings.

The next step for the bill is to be heard by the Assembly Human Services Committee. Please take a moment to print the attached letter of support (click here) on your letterhead and fax it to Noreen Evans, Chair of the Assembly Human Services Committee, at 916-319-2107.

The Governor's May Revise demonstrates the Governor's support for THP-Plus. The budget includes $9.3 million to reduce the county share of THP-Plus to 30%. This is tremendous progress toward increasing access to the program.

Thank you for your continued support.
