FYA Walk Around Lake Merritt and Resource Fair
May 20th
 
Come out to Lake Merritt on Saturday, May 20th, for the FYA Walk and Resource Fair! Enjoy a brisk walk around the lake, listen to great music, and browse the Resource Fair. Click here to register for this great event. There will also be on site registration. The goal of the walk is to raise awareness about the needs of youth transitioning from foster care and to raise funds for the work of the alliance.

Registered walkers will receive a beautiful t-shirt. An iPod Shuffle will go to the walker bringing in the highest contribution.

Free registration for all current and former foster youth up to age 24. If you would like to bring a group of youth, they do not need to register individually. Send an email to mclemmons@fosteryouthalliance.org with the number of youth you are bringing and their t-shirt sizes.

Assembly Select Committee on Foster Care Hearing on Emancipation Today
 
The Assembly Select Committee on Foster Care is holding a public hearing on Emancipation today in San Francisco. Youth and Adults come and have your voices heard by the law-makers from Sacramento. Let’s show the State Officials and the public that we care about what happens to youth when they leave foster care and that we have ideas to improve the system.

Date and Time: May 12, 2006 from 1pm-4pm.
Location: San Francisco California State Building, Milton Marks Auditorium (located in the basement) on 455 Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco, California.

Support foster youth's career goals at the Third Annual HEY Foster Youth Job Shadow Day. Join HEY for a benefit breakfast as they recognize foster youth in the workplace. OYC invites you to hear Oakland¹s award winning choruses in their annual spring concert, Lift Every Voice on May 13, 2006. This year OYC is extremely pleased to welcome Linda Tillery, who will bring her own special touch to the classic ³Lift Every Voice and Sing", and perform it with our Concert Chorus at the event. Celebrate spring with over 100 Oakland youth singing an eclectic repertoire the elementary school Miracle Choruses, the all-city Middle School Magic Chorus, the Concert Chorus, the a cappella ensemble True Harmonic Equation, and OYC's Alumni Chorus.

Foster Care Alumni of America (FCAA) is a new, national non-profit organization transforming the lives of children, youth and adults who share the foster care experience by connecting them into a well-supported and organized community and ensuring they become a powerful, collective voice of change for both individuals and the whole foster care system.

The mission of Foster Care Alumni of America is to connect the alumni community and to transform policy and practice, ensuring opportunity for people in and from foster care.
