FYA Professional Development Training February 14
 
On Tuesday, February 14th, from 9:30-12:30, the FYA Professional Development Training will focus on “Youth Safety: Preventing Self-Injurious Behavior.” This training will be held at the ILSP office, 2647 International Blvd., Suite 312, Oakland.

Benefit for Covenant House

OUSD Transitional Students and Families Program Hiring Tutors
 
Do you enjoy working with youth? Do you want to do something great for your community? Oakland Unified School District’s Transitional Students and Families Program needs tutors to work with homeless and foster youth of all ages. Tutors work with students in the foster care group homes or shelters where they live. Tutors work approximately 6 hours each week and are hired as consultants with the district for $13/hour. Applicants must have at least two years of college (junior standing) and verifiable experience working with at-risk youth. Ethnic minorities strongly encouraged to apply. Renaissance Scholars Early Academic Planning Camp
 
The Renaissance Scholars Program is planning its 2nd annual Early Academic Planning Camp (EAPC) to be held May 12-14, 2006. The EAP Camp, to be held at the Quaker Center (www.quakercenter.org), is designed to shape the academic pathways of thirty eligible 8th grade foster youth through 3 days of academic planning, goal-setting, personal reflection and mentoring.

The Application deadline is March 31st, which means the application needs to be in the hands of Renaissance Scholars Program Staff at UCSC that day. Seneca Center Training on child abuse
 
Seneca Center, in partnership with Chabot-Las Positas Community College District and Alameda County, presents "Child Abuse: Toward Better Understanding and Treatment," facilitated by Rachel B. Michaelsen, LCSW, on
Wednesday, February 15, 2006.

Time: The training will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

• This course meets the qualifications for 7 BBS CEU hours for MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and meets the pre-licensure child abuse training requirement. Provided by Seneca Center, Provider # 1346. To receive CEUs, you must attend the entire training.

• Group Home Administrator Course Approval for 7 GHA CEU hours is pending by CDSS, Administrator Certification Program.

Scholarships for 6th through 12th Graders

Assembly Select Committee Meeting February 15

Foster Club for National Foster Care Month
 
Visit http://www.fosterclub.com/funstuff/contest.cfm for a great contest for youth to participate in. Deadline is February 28th. The contest asks youth to name 5 things that youth can do to make a difference in the foster care system during the month of May. Great prizes for youth!
 
Section 8 Waiting List
 
Applications for the Section 8 waiting list in Oakland can be downloaded at http://www.oakha.org/lottery/lotteryAd.html. Applications are available through January 27th, and need to be postmarked no later than February 3, 2006.
