Please note that there will be no FYA Bulletin on December 29th, so any upcoming announcements should be submitted by for next week’s bulletin, which will go out on December 22nd.
 
FYA Professional Development Trainings
 
The next FYA Brown Bag Training for Managers will be held on Thursday, January 5th, 12:00-2:00 at Ross House, 485 Ninth Street, Oakland, near the 12th Street BART station. The topic will be “Team Building Skills for Managers.”

On Tuesday, January 10th, from 9:30-12:30, the FYA Professional Development Training will focus on “Crisis Management & De-escalation Communication.” This training will be held at the ILSP office, 2647 International Blvd., Suite 312, Oakland.

CYC Is Hiring Youth Evaluators
 
California Youth Connection is hiring Youth Evaluators for the Youth Led Evaluation Project (YLEP.)

California Youth Connection YLEP (Youth Led Evaluation Project) is entering its third and final year. Group home residents have been surveyed and the data collected and analyzed. Alameda County and statewide issues have been chosen. Youth Evaluators will continue to develop a strategy to improve outcomes for residents in group homes. Evaluators will direct community organizing activities and implement our countywide and statewide recommendations. Evaluators will also coordinate and run forums in Alameda County for group home residents and staff and will continue the evaluation process of group homes throughout the county. Deadline to apply: December 30th.

Workforce Development for Foster Youth Conference Call January 4th
 
Sign Up Now for the Workforce Development for Foster Youth Content Call on January 4th 10:00 -11:00 a.m. - YTAT Network Content Call.

Topic: Youth aging out from the foster care system often have challenges finding work and little or no work experience prior to emancipation. This conference call will address successful strategies and challenges related to workforce development for foster youth. The call will feature a facilitated conversation with several panelists who will discuss successful strategies for supporting opportunities for foster youth to have experiences within and in entering the workforce.

Specific strategies discussed will include collaborative partnerships between schools, social service, and workforce development agencies; County agreements to share participant information between DSS and WIA agencies; and workforce academies for foster youth supported by WIA programs. In addition, participants are invited to share strategies and challenges in supporting foster youth as they navigate the world of work.

Panelists include: Mercedes Julian, Youth Council Staff and Youth Programs Manager Orange County WIB; Bob Malmberg, Program Manager Orange County Emancipation Services/ILP and Foster Care Investigations Program; Joe Davey, Employment and Training Operations Manager, Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services; Margie Rosas, Youth Programs Manager, San Diego Workforce Partnership; and Dan Radojevic, Employment Services Coordinator, San Pascual Academy, San Diego WIB.

Auditions for Oakland Youth Chorus January 3-4
 
Encourage youth to be a part of this 32-year Oakland institution by auditioning for the Concert Chorus for ages 14-21. Oakland Youth Chorus offers retreats, a spring tour to Atlanta, lots of opportunities to perform at community events, and a great way to make new friends! Interested singers should call Director Rachelle Rogers-Ard, at 510-287-9700, ext 3 to set an audition appointment. Note: Auditions are by appointment only.
