FYA Meeting: Tomorrow
 
The next FYA Membership Meeting will take place tomorrow, Friday, November 18th, from 9:30-11:30. The meeting will be held at the ILSP Office, 2647 International Blvd, Suite 312, Oakland. Come network with other FYA organizations and hear legislative updates.
 
CYC Youth Forum: Saturday, Nov 19th
 
CYC is coordinating a youth forum for Assembly Member Karen Bass's office on November 19th from 10-4PM, and want to encourage current and former foster youth to participate in this great opportunity! The event will be at the Bay Area Academy's Conference Room, 2201 Broadway, Suite 100, Oakland.
This youth forum will be an opportunity for current and former foster youth to identify their priorities for change and present Assembly Member Bass ideas for improvement. These suggestions will shape the work of the newly formed Assembly Select Committee on Foster Care, chaired by Assembly Member Bass. All current and former foster youth are invited!

FIRST PLACE FUND FOR YOUTH: Economic Literacy Class
 
First Place Fund for Youth is recruiting for their next Economic Literacy Class and Housing Program.

At the First Place Housing Orientation on Monday, December 12th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm., youth will learn about the Emancipation Training Center and Supported Housing Program. The orientation will be held at 1755 Broadway, Suite #310, Oakland.

Interviews for the Supported Housing Program will begin December 13th and class will begin January 17th, 2006.

Request for Proposals from OFCY
 
Oakland Fund for Children and Youth (OFCY) has announced a Request for Proposals. Nonprofit and public agencies may apply, starting November 17th.

Download an application and instructions at www.ofcy.org. Proposals are due January 9, 2006, 5:00 p.m.

The four RFP’s are:

1. Comprehensive After School for ages 6-10 & 11-14 (pre-proposal required.)
2. Early Childhood Strategies for ages 0-5 (pre-proposal required.)
3. Youth Leadership & Career and College Readiness, ages 15-20.
4. Physical and Behavioral Health (all ages) and Summer Enrichment Programs for ages 6-14.

Printed copies of the RFP’s can be obtained beginning November 17, Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the OFCY office, 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Suite 4216, Oakland, 94612.

Bidders must pre-register to attend a Mandatory Bidders’ Conference held at the times listed below at Oakland City Hall, 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza, Oakland, 94612.

Tuesday, November 29th: Hearing Room #1, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Comprehensive After School Focus.

Thursday, December 1st: Hearing Room #1, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Physical and Behavioral Health, Youth Leadership, College & Career, and Summer Enrichment Focus.

 
Upcoming seneca trainings
 
Seneca Center, in partnership with Chabot-Las Positas Community College District and Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano Counties, is proud to present: Working Collaboratively with Multi-Stressed Families, a training facilitated by William Madsen, Ph.D., author of Collaborative Therapy with Multi-Stressed Families: From Old Problems to New Futures.

The class will be offered on three different dates in Alameda,
Contra Costa and Solano counties:

1. Thursday, December 8, 2005 - Oakland Conference Center

2. Thursday, January 19, 2006 - Scott's Seafood Grill and Bar
(Walnut Creek)

3. Friday, January 20, 2006 - Vallejo Arts & Conference Center

All three trainings will take place from 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

This course meets the qualifications for 6 BBS CEU hours for
MFTs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral
Sciences. It is provided by Seneca Center, Provider #1346. To receive
CEUs, you must attend the entire training.

Group Home Administrator Course Approval for 6 GHA CEU hours is
pending by CDSS, Administrator Certification Program.

KQED Workshop for Educators and Providers
 
KQED Community Outreach offers two professional development workshops
for providers, educators, artists and cultural workers who work with
incarcerated or formerly incarcerated adults and/or youth. The workshop
is also for educators who teach about incarceration in their classrooms
or youth programs.

This hands-on workshop features eight documentaries produced around
themes of incarceration and reentry and innovative curriculum
demonstrating creative ways to use the films in your program(s). You
will leave the workshop with copies of four of the films and
accompanying curriculum guides. Documentaries included in the workshop
are: Prison Lullabies, Manhood and Violence: Fatal Peril, Road to
Return, Every Child is Born a Poet, What I Want My Words To Do To You,
Girl Trouble, Getting Out and Reentry-Life on the Outside.
