Chafee Assessment now on-line

Casey Family Programs is pleased to announce that the Chafee Assessment is now on-line at http://www.chafee.org/ and ready for use with youth, alumni of care, and secondary reporters for youth and alumni. Casey built this assessment in collaboration with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The assessment captures all primary outcome elements of Chafee data, based on the original data set published by the Administration for Children and Families in December 2003.

Everyone is invited to sample various other tools, instruments, and curricula found at both http://www.caseylifeskills.org/ and http://www.chafee.org/. Please keep in mind it costs your state nothing to utilize these assessments.

Casey built this tool because they want states to use every single dollar they receive for independent living services for youth, not for building data systems. Casey Family Programs has invested the capacity, staff, resources, and will to build these tools for you and they hope they will serve you well and that they will help you direct precious funding toward helping your young people.

House Ways and Means Cuts IV-E Foster Care

(From the Children's Monitor Online Vol. 18, Issue 42: 10/31/2005)

On October 26, the House Ways and Means Committee voted 22-17 for a $9 billion package of budget cuts, including at least $600 million in Title IV-E foster care cuts. The vote was along party lines, with two members absent. For a list of Ways and Means Committee members, go to http://waysandmeans.house.gov.

The bill would repeal the Rosales v. Thompson decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which has jurisdiction in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Guam, and the Mariana Island. More than 5,000 children in foster kinship care would be affected by the repeal--more than 4,000 in California alone. The repeal of Rosales would result in cuts of just under $400 million over the next five years.

For more information on Rosales v. Thompson, visit http://www.cwla.org/advocacy/rosales.htm.
